For every motorcycle enthusiast, to travel the Himalayas on two wheels is a classic motorcycling experience. Among the motorable Himalayan-Indian roads, Ladakh is something of a pilgrimage for motorcyclists. Roads that slice through valleys and disappear into the horizon, river-crossings, stretch of fine tarmac and yet another stretch that is rugged and challenging; and all this while taking in the mighty Himalayan Mountains and the icy winds.
At Sky Walker, we are pioneers of motorcycle expeditions in Ladakh and offer a variety of unique and road less-trodden routes. Central to the ethos of the experience at Sky Walker is the freedom we try to offer to our guests in the choices you make - a group of enthusiasts may rent our motorcycles and go solo, or you could enlist the services of our experienced guides who will join you and ensure that your experience is seamless and pure.
Most importantly, we understand that we are a part of one of the most beautiful and equally fragile landscapes. We understand that a small ignorant decision on our behalf can cost us and our home unimaginable environmental damage. For expeditions such as these, we take extra caution to ensure that we do not adversely impact the places we visit and we therefore discourage off-roading wherever it is a threat to the natural fauna and flora. Our utmost objective along with our conscious clients is therefore to make most of discovering the land while making least impact on the places we cross by.
We rely and engage for all motorbike expedition the trusted Royal Enfield 500CC. A real journey that takes you to the heights of the valley ... the real trans-Himalaya!
We operate on all Himalayan routes. Some of our routes include the following circuits:
This Himalayan expedition takes you from the foothills of Himalaya and traverses the entire length of Himachal and across the roof of the world, before arriving in the heart of Ladakh. As we journey through the breathtaking Himalayas, we pass through a number of passes at altitudes of 5,000m.
This route explores the Eastern arm of Ladakh which forms part of the Tibean Changtang Plateau. The Changtang is home to the nomads of Tibetan origin known as the Changpa who have inhabited and lived in the harshest conditions for thousands of years. The region is also home to the Changtang Wildlife Sanctuary, Pangong Tso and Tsomoriri - two of the largest high altitude salt water lakes in this part of the world.
Nubra Valley is one of the highest motorable destinations in the world. The valley is home to a number of extraordinary varieties of both flora and fauna. The landscape is a remarkable mix of mighty colour changing mountain, sand dunes, oasis and even a river Shyok flowing through the landscape. In this expedition, Ladakh will unveil Nubra Valley through the charisma of its passes, its glittering river, through high-altitude white cold desert, through its double humped camels, ancient monasteries and charming green oasis villages. Destinations that you cover will include Diskit - the main town of Nubra Valley, Hunder. Panamik, Turtuk, Sumur and Samsthaling.
Nestled in the Zanskar range of mountains, in one of the remotest corner of Ladakh, the Zanskar Valley is an expansive enchanting region rich in Tibetan Buddhist practices and culture. The vast valley is dominated with sparkling fresh water streams, massive glaciers, old monasteries and simple ancient lifestyle. The Zanskar Valley is located at an elevation of approximately 6000 m. Most of the journey is made downstream along river Indus and includes crossing a number of high passes. The expedition is rugged and breathtaking at the same time.
